Simplicity is the key
The Minimalist Baby was built on a simple idea: clarity changes everything.
We remove the noise around newborn care, so intuition can return, connection can deepen, and each moment can be met with calm and intention.
The founder
Ulisses is a Brazilian-born pediatric and neonatal nurse and lactation consultant with over 15 years of experience in NICU, PICU, and private-home newborn care across New York and California. Through The Minimalist Baby, he brings hospital-level expertise into the home, guiding families with simplicity, structure, and calm.
Growing up in Brazil, Ulisses was immersed from an early age in the rich maternal and newborn care traditions that are woven into everyday life there: the instinctive, community-held knowledge passed between mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers across generations. That early exposure gave him something no clinical program could teach, a holistic attunement to newborns that he carries into every home he enters today, layering it beneath the evidence-based precision of his formal training.
He earned a full university scholarship, graduated on the dean's list, and built a career that bridges two worlds: the rigor of hospital-level neonatal and pediatric nursing and the quiet, embodied wisdom of caregiving as it has always been practiced. Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he works closely with families in their earliest months, supporting sleep, feeding, lactation, and the transition into parenthood with calm, mindful presence.
He is known among clients and referring pediatricians as "The Baby Whisperer," a name that reflects not a trick or a technique, but a deep, practiced attunement to newborns that only comes from years at the bedside, and a lifetime of knowing that caring for a baby is both a science and something older than science.

How our newborn care approach works
Our approach is shaped by three principles: minimalism, intuition, and psychoanalysis.
Minimalism brings clarity. New parents in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond are flooded with products, opinions, and conflicting advice from the moment their baby arrives. We strip all of that away and focus only on what the evidence supports and what your baby actually needs.
Intuition restores trust. Most parents already have good instincts that have simply been buried under noise. Our in-home newborn care approach creates the conditions for those instincts to resurface, so you can move through each day with confidence rather than anxiety.
Psychoanalysis offers understanding. Inspired by Donald Winnicott, the British pediatrician and psychoanalyst who introduced the concept of the "good enough parent," and Esther Bick, the child psychotherapist who pioneered close infant observation, we believe that learning to read your baby's rhythms, signals, and needs is the foundation of a calm and connected relationship from the very beginning.
Together, these three principles shape an evidence-based newborn care methodology that is quiet, intentional, and aligned with your baby's natural rhythm, brought to your home with the quiet precision of someone who has spent over 15 years at the intersection of clinical expertise and human connection.

Calm, confident newborn care
Our approach values attunement over perfection and observation over assumption. We meet your baby as they are, reading their cues, honoring their rhythm, and helping you build a steady, confident connection from the very first days.
